Will a 100 year-old record fall in the next few weeks?

02 July 2013

On July 10, 1913, almost 100 years ago to the day, Death Valley National Park set the all-time world record of 134 degrees. Never before or since has it been hotter on planet earth!

Now weather forecasters at the National Weather Service believe that this 100 year-old record may fall in the coming days, and there is a chance it could be broken during my Death Valley Badwater 135-mile Ultramarathon which starts at 6:00am PST, July 15.

Recently, a similar, but shorter 50 mile race in Nevada known as “Running with the Devil” was cancelled as it had its permits revoked due to an “excessive heat warning,” and it was only supposed to reach 117 degrees.

In a little over a week I will not only find out if the mercury will hit 135 degrees (135 degrees!) during my 135-mile race, but I will learn if will become a 7-time finisher of what National Geographic calls the “toughest footrace in the world.”

As I am out there choosing to suffer a little for those who suffer a lot involuntarily in Haiti and elsewhere, would you consider donating to our Caring House Project Foundation/Badwater effort this year?

Remember: “compassion without action is a waste of emotion.”

Donate $1 for every mile of my Death Valley Race, or $135. Your donation will provide 1,350 meals.

Donate $10 for every mile of my Death Valley Race, or $1,350. Your donation will build half of a concrete home in Haiti!

If these donation options don’t suit you, see https://www.frank-mckinney.com/donate.aspx for others, some starting at $10.
